Ceramic Coating for PPF (Gloss & Stealth)

Vaderwerks · Agoura Hills, CA · Oct 7, 2026

Yes, you can ceramic coat paint protection film — and on both gloss PPF and stealth (satin) PPF, it is one of the most useful add-ons we install at Vaderwerks in Agoura Hills. The PPF underneath stops rocks, chips, and road rash. The ceramic on top makes the film dramatically easier to wash, helps it resist UV and staining, and keeps stealth film looking evenly satin instead of blotchy. At Vaderwerks, 1-year ceramic protection for vinyl or PPF is $800, or $600 when applied with a fresh installation. Ceramic does not replace PPF, and PPF does not do what ceramic does. They are two different layers solving two different problems — and on a Conejo Valley daily driver that sees the 101, valley sun, and the occasional coastal run, using both is often the right build.

What Does Ceramic Add on Top of PPF?

PPF is physical armor. Ceramic is surface chemistry. On top of film, a PPF-safe ceramic coating adds:

  1. Release. Bugs, tar, and freeway film let go faster. On a full-body PPF car that commutes, this is the difference between a normal hand wash and a scrub session.
  2. UV and stain resistance. PPF itself is built for the elements, but ceramic slows the surface dulling, staining, and water-spotting that makes film look tired before it actually is — a real factor under Thousand Oaks and Westlake Village sun.
  3. Easier stealth ownership. Stealth PPF's flat satin finish shows uneven cleaning, water spots, and fingerprints more than gloss. A matte-safe ceramic helps the finish stay uniform and washes cleaner without adding shine.
  4. Hydrophobic finish on gloss PPF. Gloss film with ceramic sheets and beads water, dries faster, and needs less mitt pressure to come clean — which also means less chance of marring the film over years of washes.

What ceramic does not add to PPF: more rock protection, more thickness, or self-healing. Self-healing is a property of the film's top coat and works with engine/sun heat on fine marks. If a stone breaks the film on the 101, ceramic will not save it — the panel needs inspection, and sometimes replacement. We explain the film itself in Wrap vs PPF: Which Is Right for You?.

How Much Does Ceramic Over PPF Cost?

At Vaderwerks, 1-year ceramic protection for vinyl or PPF is $800, or $600 with a fresh installation while the car is already prepped and in the shop. That pricing is the same whether the film underneath is gloss or stealth; the product and prep differ by finish, the price does not.

Put it next to the film it protects. PPF Full Front starts at $1,995 (stealth Full Front from $2,495). Full-body gloss PPF runs Coupe $5,600, Sedan $5,900, SUV $6,400, Van $6,900, Truck from $7,400, Exotic $7,900. Full-body stealth is quoted as its own standalone price: Coupe $6,100, Sedan $6,400, SUV $6,900, Van $7,400, Truck from $7,900, Exotics $8,400. On a full-body build in that range, the $600 fresh-install ceramic is a small fraction of the job, and it protects the look of every dollar underneath it for the year. Is Ceramic Different on Gloss PPF vs Stealth PPF?

The goal is the same; the product and the failure modes are different.

On gloss PPF, ceramic is mostly about washing and water behavior. Gloss film shows swirl-type marring from bad washing, so an easier-release surface means less mitt pressure and a cleaner finish over time. You still hand wash with pH-neutral soap — ceramic is not a license for a tunnel wash.

On stealth PPF, ceramic is about keeping satin satin. Stealth film turns a glossy car into a flat, satin version of its color. The enemy is unevenness: wax, gloss detail sprays, harsh chemicals, and dirty-wash technique all create patchy shine. A matte-safe ceramic preserves the flat look, adds UV protection, and makes the car washable without fighting the finish. Never wax stealth PPF, coated or not, and never use a gloss enhancer on it. Can You Ceramic Coat PPF Yourself?

You can buy consumer ceramic sprays anywhere. On PPF — and especially on stealth — we recommend against learning on your own film. A high spot, a gloss product on satin film, or a coating applied over contamination can leave a finish that has to be professionally corrected, and on film, correction options are narrower than on paint. The professional job is also why ours is a defined 1-year product with prep included, not a bottle and a hope. If your PPF is older and you want ceramic now, bring the car in for a wash and inspection first; edges or damaged film should be handled before anything is coated over them.

How Do You Wash Ceramic-Coated PPF?

Hand wash, pH-neutral soap, microfiber mitt, two buckets, and a full microfiber dry. Same discipline as any film, less effort per wash. Our complete method, including pressure-washer limits on edges, is in How to Wash a Wrapped Car the Right Way and Can You Pressure Wash a Wrapped or PPF Car?.

Watch for the two Conejo Valley specifics: hard-water spots if you let a coated car air-dry after a Malibu coastal run, and bug etching if freeway splatter bakes on a hot front end in valley heat before you wash it. Ceramic buys you time on both. It does not buy you neglect.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you put ceramic coating on PPF?

Yes. A PPF-safe ceramic over gloss or stealth paint protection film adds easier washing, UV and stain resistance, and a hydrophobic finish. At Vaderwerks it is $800, or $600 with a fresh installation.

Does ceramic coating make PPF self-healing?

No. Self-healing comes from the PPF's own top coat and heat. Ceramic sits on top for cleaning and UV benefits and does not add healing or rock protection.

Is ceramic worth it on stealth PPF?

Often yes. Stealth's satin finish shows uneven cleaning and water spots. A matte-safe ceramic helps it stay uniformly flat and easier to wash, without adding shine. Never wax stealth film.

How much does it cost to ceramic coat a full PPF car?

At Vaderwerks, 1-year ceramic protection for PPF is $800, or $600 when applied with the fresh PPF installation. Full-body gloss PPF runs from Coupe $5,600 to Exotic $7,900, and stealth from Coupe $6,100 to Exotics $8,400 as standalone prices.

Can ceramic replace PPF?

No. Ceramic is a chemical layer; it cannot stop rock chips or road rash. PPF is the physical barrier. Many daily drivers use PPF for impact zones and ceramic over it for washing and UV — they complement each other.

How do I maintain ceramic-coated PPF?

Hand wash with pH-neutral soap and microfiber, dry fully, and avoid wax and gloss sprays on stealth film. If water behavior fades well inside the year, have the car inspected rather than applying stronger chemicals at home.
