Chrome Delete: The Cleanest Look on the Road

Vaderwerks · Agoura Hills, CA · Oct 20, 2026

A chrome delete wraps every piece of shiny chrome trim on your car — window surrounds, grille, door handles, badges — in gloss or satin black vinyl (or a color, if you want). It erases the dated chrome look and gives the car a clean, modern, factory-blackout appearance without replacing a single part. It is fully reversible, it protects the trim underneath, and at Vaderwerks it runs $300 to $1,000 depending on how much trim your car has. Here is what gets covered, which finish to pick, how long it lasts, and why it pairs so well with tint.

What Is a Chrome Delete?

Factory chrome was a luxury signal in 2005. Now it reads dated on most cars — especially against dark paint, black wheels, and tinted glass. A chrome delete covers every chrome bit in vinyl film, almost always gloss black or satin black, so the trim matches the rest of the car's dark accents instead of fighting them.

It is the same premium vinyl we wrap cars with, cut and laid by hand around each trim piece. No parts get removed and replaced, no paint gets touched, and nothing is permanent. When you are done with the look — or when you sell the car — the film peels off and the chrome underneath is exactly as it was.

What Parts Get Covered in a Chrome Delete?

Whatever chrome your car has. On most cars that means the window surround trim, the grille or grille surround, door handles, side mirror caps or mirror trim, front and rear badges and emblems, and the trunk or tailgate trim strip. SUVs and trucks often add roof rails and fog light surrounds to the list.

Every car is different, which is why chrome delete pricing is a range, not a menu of per-part prices. A sedan with just window trim and badges is a small job. A full-size SUV with chrome everywhere — grille, rails, handles, window trim, rear applique — is a much bigger one. Send us photos of your trim and we will quote it tight.

How Much Does a Chrome Delete Cost?

$300 to $1,000 at Vaderwerks, depending on how much trim there is and how complex it is to wrap. The low end covers a basic partial — say, window trim on a sedan. The high end is a full blackout on a trim-heavy SUV or truck: grille, window surrounds, handles, badges, rails, the works.

We quote from photos: year, make, model, and a few clear shots of the chrome you want gone. That is all we need for an accurate number. And like everything we do, the film is installed by hand in our Agoura Hills shop — no dip, no spray, no shortcuts that peel in six months.

Gloss Black or Satin Black — Which Finish Should You Pick?

Gloss black is the default for a reason: it matches factory black trim and piano-black accents, so the delete looks like the car came that way. On black or dark-colored cars, gloss black trim disappears into the body lines — that is the cleanest look on the road.

Satin black is the move for stealth and matte builds. If your car is wrapped in satin or matte film, satin trim keeps the whole car in the same finish family instead of breaking it up with shiny bits. We can also do color — color-matched trim, or an accent color on badges — but nine out of ten chrome deletes we do are black. It is black for a reason.

How Long Does Chrome Delete Last?

Years. It is the same cast vinyl we use for full wraps, rated for long-term outdoor use, and trim pieces are small, flat, and simple compared to a hood or bumper. The enemies are the same as any wrap: automatic brush washes, pressure washers aimed at edges, and neglect. Hand wash it like the rest of the car — we cover exactly how in How to Wash a Wrapped Car the Right Way — and a chrome delete will look new for years.

If an edge ever does lift, bring it in early. A small trim piece is a quick fix when it is caught early and a re-do when dirt gets underneath. Same rule as wraps: do not peel at it to check.

Does Chrome Delete Pair With Window Tint?

It is the classic combo. Blacked-out trim plus tinted glass is what gives a car that complete, finished look — neither one alone does as much as the two together. We do both in-house: window tint runs $100 per window on cars and $110 on SUVs, with full windshields $250 to $300. Most customers who come in for a chrome delete leave with tint scheduled, and plenty do it the other way around. If you are already thinking about one, price out both — the transformation for the money is hard to beat.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a chrome delete permanent?

No. It is vinyl film, fully reversible. Peel it off and the chrome underneath is untouched.

Will removing chrome delete damage the trim?

No — removal works the same as wrap removal, with heat and adhesive cleanup. The trim underneath is protected the whole time the film is on.

Does chrome delete fade in the sun?

Not with quality film installed right. Cheap film and bad installs fade and peel; ours is the same cast vinyl we wrap cars with, and it holds up to Conejo Valley sun for years.

Can you chrome delete just the window trim?

Yes. Partial deletes are common — window trim only, or grille only. That is what the $300 end of our range is for. Tell us which pieces and we will quote just those.

What colors can you do besides black?

Gloss and satin black are the standard, but we can do color-matched or accent colors on request. If you have a specific look in mind, send a photo of what you want.
