Inside Our Wrap Shop: Prep, Install, and QC

Vaderwerks · Agoura Hills, CA · Oct 30, 2026

Every wrap that leaves Vaderwerks goes through the same three stages: a deep prep wash and decontamination, a panel-by-panel install in our Agoura Hills shop, and a full quality-control walkaround before you pick it up. A full color-change wrap averages 5 days in the bay; larger vehicles run 5 to 7. Here is exactly what happens to your car at each stage — no mystery, no shortcuts, and no handing your keys to a queue of strangers.

What Happens Before the Vinyl Goes On?

Prep is the part nobody photographs and the part that decides everything. Paint that is not truly clean does not hold vinyl the way it should, so we start every job with a full wash and decontamination — iron fallout, tar, and embedded road grime all come off before a single piece of film is cut.

After the wash, every panel is inspected for damage that vinyl cannot hide. Wraps follow the surface underneath them: a dent, a deep scratch, or peeling clearcoat will still be visible through the film. If we find something that will show, you will hear about it before the install starts, not after. Small chips and light scratches get noted; anything bigger gets a plan — we would rather fix expectations on day one than apologize on day five.

Then the car is masked where it needs masking, and the disassembly begins. Handles, badges, trim pieces, mirrors, and lights come off or get worked around depending on the vehicle. This is the unglamorous, slow part of the job — and it is why a cheap two-day wrap looks like a cheap two-day wrap. We do not rush it.

How Do You Actually Install a Full Wrap?

Panel by panel, by hand. There is no shortcut: each panel gets laid, positioned, worked into the curves and recesses, and finished at the edges. Edges get wrapped and tucked wherever the panel allows, because wrapped edges are what separate an install that looks painted from one that looks applied.

Badges are handled right — removed, wrapped around, or reinstalled depending on the design. Seams are planned so they land where the eye does not go: under trim lines, in recesses, behind panels. Body lines and shut lines get respected, not fought.

The whole install happens in our shop at 5310 Derry Ave Suite I in Agoura Hills, with your car in the bay — not parked outside in the sun between sessions. Film hates heat and dust during install, and the finish shows it when a shop cuts corners on the environment.

What Does QC Mean on a Wrapped Car?

Quality control is a full walkaround before the car leaves, in real light, at every angle. We check every edge for lifting, every recess for bridging, every seam for alignment, and every badge and trim piece for clean reinstall. If something is not right, it gets redone — it does not go home with you.

When you pick up the car, we walk it together. You will see the edges, the seams, the finished panels, and we will show you how to wash it so it stays looking new — the same method we lay out in How to Wash a Wrapped Car the Right Way. If an edge ever lifts down the road, bring it in early: a small trim or panel fix is quick when it is caught early and a redo when dirt gets underneath.

How Long Will You Have My Car?

A full color-change wrap averages 5 days. Large vehicles — full-size SUVs, trucks, vans — run 5 to 7 days because there is simply more surface and more disassembly. Partial wraps, roofs, hoods, and chrome deletes are shorter jobs; we will give you a real timeline with the quote, not a guess.

And the quote itself: send us the year, make, model, and what you want done, and you get an exact price back within 24 hours. No "starting at" games, no surprise line items when you arrive. For reference, full wraps start at $4,200 for coupes at our shop — but your car gets its own exact number.

Can I Get Progress Updates While It Is In the Shop?

Yes. You will know where your car stands through the job — prep done, install underway, QC and pickup. We would rather answer a text than have you wonder. And when it is done, you pick up a finished car, not a list of things to come back for.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to wash my car before I drop it off?

Not specially — every job starts with our own full wash and decontamination anyway. Just bring it as-is; do not wax it first, because wax residue has to come off before vinyl goes on.

How long does a full wrap take?

Five days on average for a full color-change wrap. Full-size SUVs, trucks, and vans run 5 to 7 days. Partial wraps and accents are shorter — your quote includes a real timeline.

Do you wrap door jambs?

It depends on the job and the look you want. We will talk through jamb options when you get your quote — some builds call for them, some do not.

What if I find an issue after I pick up the car?

Bring it back and we will make it right. That is what the QC walkaround is for, but if anything shows up after you have driven it, we want to see it — early is always easier than later.

Do you do partial wraps, or only full wraps?

Both. Full color changes are the headline job, but we do hoods, roofs, trunks, stripes, chrome deletes, and accents all the time. Same prep, same install standards, same QC — just less car.
